What to test on a printed toy
- Lead and heavy metals in the resin or filament and any pigment — printed color changes are formulation changes.
- Small-parts behavior: layer adhesion under drop and abuse creates fragments standard molded toys do not.
- Sharp edges and points from layer lines, supports, and post-processing.
The formulation-change trap
Certification rests on testing that represents production. A maker who switches filament brand, color pigment, or resin — even at the same nominal specifications — has changed the material the certificate was based on. Serious makers lock their bill of materials, or re-test per formulation. Batch documentation is your defense in a marketplace review or CPSC inquiry.

Do one-off custom printed toys need a CPC?
Products manufactured for sale to consumers fall under the rules — including custom orders. The practical testing cost is why many makers restrict printed toys to a tested, fixed design.
Is home-printed the same as factory-printed?
The legal duty is the same for products sold in commerce. Home printing changes your testing logistics, not your certification obligation.
