CPC language requirements
The rule and the practice
The certificate is a US compliance document for a US enforcement agency: English is the working requirement, and marketplaces review in English too. Factories routinely issue certificates in Chinese or bilingual format — translate or regenerate them in English before treating them as your file. The same logic applies to test reports: an English summary or translation alongside the original satisfies the understandability expectation.
What non-English-speaking sellers should do
- Issue the CPC in English, in your own name as importer or US manufacturer.
- Ask the laboratory for an English test report or certified translation of the original.
- Keep marketplace-facing documents in English — review teams reject files they cannot read.
Questions people ask
Can the CPC be bilingual?
Yes — English plus another language is fine. English must be present; a Chinese-only certificate is the failure case.
Does the tracking label need to be in English?
The tracking information itself must identify manufacturer and date; warnings for children’s products have format and content expectations best written in English for US commerce.
