Which rules apply to children’s pottery kits

Does air-dry clay need heavy-metal testing?

Yes: clay bodies and colorants are screened for lead, cadmium, and other elements. “Non-toxic” claims require the test file behind them.

Are the finished (baked) pieces re-tested?

Curing can change surface chemistry — labs typically test both the raw material and finished samples. Confirm the protocol with your laboratory.
